Handmade Wardrobe Series | Timid Beginner

This class is made for those who are brand new to sewing.

No experience required! 

This class series is designed for beginner sewists seeking to have a handmade wardrobe. We will be working with a variety of materials, teaching you tips for working with woven fabric, knit fabric, and even elastic! This class will empower you to feel more comfortable reading a pattern, making adjustments, and using your machine to make clothes that you love (and that fit!). Over the course of four weeks, you will learn how to make the:

Foxie (Long) Boxie (sizes A-Q) from Gracie Steel.

Your new favourite comfy cool pants. These pants are intended for adventurous beginner sewists or those who need a quick pallet cleanser between complex projects. The Foxie Boxies feature inseam pockets, a high rise, and a oversized boxy fit. 

Acacia Undies (sizes 0-30) from Megan Nielsen Patterns. What better to make with those knit fabric scraps than a pair of undies? The Acacia undies from Megan Nielsen are a bikini cut underwear that uses picot or fold-over elastic to finish the edges. You will learn all our tips and tricks for sewing underwear (don't be scared, it's not as hard as it seems). This pattern is an excellent starting point for lingerie making!

If a men's sewing pattern would better meet your needs, please reach out. We can substitute patterns upon request. 

You should already know how to:

• Thread your sewing machine.
• Change your stitch settings.
• Wind a bobbin.

You will learn how to:

• Read a sewing pattern.
• Use a size chart.
• Confidently use a sewing machine.
• Sew with woven (non-stretch) fabric.

Materials Required:

Fabric requirements vary based on the width of the fabric, the size you are making, and more. For the most accurate list, please see the links below. 

Foxie Boxie Pants

• 2.5-3 yd 60" wide light to medium weight woven (NON-STRETCHY) fabric.
• 3" elastic (will be provided)
• Coordinating thread.

Acacia Undies

• 0.5 yds light to medium weight knit (STRETCHY) fabric 
• 1/4" elastic (will be provided)
• Coordinating thread.

This is a FOUR WEEK course held on Wednesday, October 1st, 8th, 15th, & 22nd, 2025 from 5:30pm-7:30pm. During our first class we will discuss the patterns, sizing, and prepping for the course. Please ensure that you can come to every section of this course. Refunds will NOT be given for sections that are missed. Cancellations must occur at least ONE FULL WEEK before the class for a refund to be given.

You will recieve a paper copy of both of the patterns. 

Fabric and notions are not included in the cost of the class. 

If you need help picking out fabrics, you will recieve an email with fabric recommendations and links to suitable options. It is recommened to order fabric two weeks before class, so you will want to order quickly! Please pre-wash your fabric before our first class.

Bring your own sewing machine for the best experience. We will have limited machine rentals. A detailed email with further instructions will be sent before class, but please contact us with any questions.
