Beginner Sewing Series | Timid Beginner

This class is made for those who are new to sewing.

No experience required! 

 Over the course of five weeks, you will learn how to sew the:

June Pants or Shorts  (up to 62"hip) from Helen's Closet (women's pattern)

OR

Shore Pants (up to 66" hip) from Twig and Tale (men's pattern) 

• This pattern has two size ranges, please use the size chart linked here to select a size. You will choose a size range when checking out to help us with printing.

If your hip size falls outside of the size range, please reach out via email (rissewn@gmail.com). We will provide a pattern that will better meet your needs.

This is a FIVE WEEK course held on Thursdays in July (1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th)  from 5:30pm-7:30pm.

There is a pre-requisite to the course. Before this course you are expected to take the Sewing with Patterns workshop. There will be a paid in person option, or a free video option. 

During this workshop we will discuss the patterns, sizing, and prepping for the course. 

Location: Class will be located at Pirillo Textiles.
(3800 Merle Hay Rd Suite 912, Des Moines, IA- inside of Merle Hay Mall. Use entrance near Flix Brewhouse)

We have sewing machines available to rent for this class. If you have your own machine, you are encouraged to bring it to class. 

You will learn how to:

• Confidently use a sewing machine.
• Sew with woven (non-stretch) fabric.
• Sew in-seam pockets
• Create a waistband
• Hem a pair of pants

Materials Required:

• 1.5-3 yds (60" wide) light-medium weight woven fabric (linens, cotton, rayon, etc)
                 -refer to pattern for the size chart and fabric requirements
• 1.5 yards of 1.5" elastic 
• Coordinating thread
  

Fabric and notions are not included in the cost of the workshop.

If you need help picking out fabrics, you can visit Pirillo Textiles ahead of the class and get fabric recommendations from Adam. If ordering online, it is recommended to order fabric two weeks before class.

Please pre-wash  your fabric before the workshop. Your paper pattern needs to be picked up and cut before the first class. 

Please ensure that you can come to every section of this course. Refunds will NOT be given for sections that are missed.

Cancellations must occur at least TWO WEEKS before the class for a refund to be given.
