Knits 101: Tank Top | Confident Beginner

Ready to conquer knit fabrics with confidence? This beginner-friendly workshop is designed to take the mystery out of sewing with stretch!

Whether you’re brand new to sewing or already comfortable at your machine, this class will help you build skills and confidence while trying something new.

Are you curious about sergers? You’ll have the opportunity to try one out during class and see how it can elevate your sewing projects.

During this hands-on class students will sew the:

Blomma Tank (bust sizes 30"-60") from Paradise Patterns (women's pattern)

OR

Ben Tank Top (chest sizes 32"-64") from Jalie Patterns (men's pattern)

There is a pre-requisite to the course.

Before this course you are expected to take the Sewing with Patterns workshop. There will be a paid in-person option, or a free video option. 

During this workshop we will discuss the patterns, sizing, and prepping for future courses. 

Date: Sunday, July 26th

Time: 12:00pm-3:00pm

Location: Class will be located at Pirillo Textiles.
(3800 Merle Hay Rd Suite 912, Des Moines, IA- inside of Merle Hay Mall. Use entrance near Flix Brewhouse)

We have sewing machines available to rent for this class. If you have your own machine, you are encouraged to bring it to class. 

You will learn how to:

• Handle and sew stretchy materials.
• Attach knit binding. 
• Choose the best stitch types to use for knits.
• Choose the right needles for knit projects.

Materials Required:

• 1-2 yd (60" wide) light to medium jersey weight knit fabric 
  • refer to pattern (linked above) for the size chart and fabric requirements
• Coordinating thread.

Fabric and notions are not included in the cost of the class.

If you need help picking out fabrics, you can visit Pirillo Textiles ahead of the class and get fabric recommendations from Adam. If you are wanting to order fabric, you can use this link or this link. It is recommended to order fabric two weeks before class.

Please pre-wash  your fabric before the workshop. Your paper pattern needs to be picked up and cut before the first class. 

Cancellations must occur at least TWO WEEKS before the class for a refund to be given.
